10 trials and no more reels – in the NEST

10/10/19 / 19:30h / 7:30pm

10 trials and no more reels is a series of performances by Sebastian Hirn that lifts the common genre boundaries between music, dance, theater and visual arts.

A shrimp cutter was cut into pieces with chainsaws. Then the parts were put together again in an old swimming pool in Munich. The space was used for a year in various constellations of dancers and musicians.

After the ship was part of an action in an old paint factory in Munich Sendling, it was installed 2016 in the Lothringer13 before it traveled to Zurich in the Red Factory. In 2018, the work was shown in the Schwer Reiter in Munich and in the Kunstraum Nestroyhof in Vienna, where the installation was exhibited for several weeks after the campaign. At the finissage the ship was publicly dismantled.

This year the cutter will anker on first floor in the ‘Nest’ of the Lothringer13. 10 Trials and no more reels then goes to the Switch Lab in Bucharest.

The musicians will use the dancers and performers to explore the limits of space and sound, body and time and make them physically tangible for all present – they are directly involved with their bodies and instruments and the performers are part of the ‘acoustic space’.

Based on a radically subjective engagement with Buster Keaton’s cinematic work, 10 Trials and no more reels solve and question the human body from its immediate context. Every step leads into the unknown, gravity seems out of control, the coordinate system has become uncertain, the bodies are exposed to the environment unprotected, layers are visible, the construction comes to light, new perspectives emerge. Like readymades, the objects and instruments become an independent sculpture, an abstract form. In the reversal of the horizon, the narrow limits of our reality appear.
